Which should I pick?
Early flight
TrainThameslinkThameslink direct
The London Bridge ticket office does not open until 04:45 (05:25 on Sundays), but a contactless card gets you through the gates before then; if the first southbound Thameslink in the journey planner reaches the South Terminal in time for your bag-drop, it costs a fraction of a dawn car.
Lots of luggage
TrainThameslinkThameslink direct
Coming off the Jubilee or Northern line with cases, you can reach Thameslink's through platforms 4 and 5 by lift, and the train stops inside the South Terminal, so the bags go from carriage to check-in without a kerb or a staircase.
Group or family
Private transferPre-booked private hire (2 firms)Pre-booked 5-seat people carrier to Gatwick
A car collected from your door spares you herding children and several suitcases across the London Bridge concourse; two firms list a five-seat people carrier for this journey at £132.
After midnight
Private transferPre-booked private hire (4 firms)Pre-booked saloon to Gatwick
We could not confirm a night Thameslink from London Bridge, so for a check-in in the small hours a car booked for a fixed pick-up is the one option we can point to; ask whether the quote covers the Gatwick drop-off charge.
Route notes
Thameslink from London Bridge serves the South Terminal and nowhere else at the airport. If your airline checks in at the North Terminal, the free shuttle is the last leg: the airport puts the ride at around two minutes, and you should add however long you wait for it before measuring the trip against your bag-drop deadline.
At London Bridge, the Thameslink trains run from through platforms 4 and 5, not from the terminating platforms 10 to 15 that mainly serve Southern's suburban routes. The screens will usually show a final destination of Brighton, Horsham or Three Bridges, so read the calling points for Gatwick Airport rather than hunting for it as a destination. Coming off the Jubilee or Northern line, allow a few minutes to reach the platform through a busy concourse.
For a very early flight, check the first train in the National Rail journey planner the night before. We have not printed first and last trains because we could not confirm them from a source we trust. The ticket office opens at 04:45 Monday to Saturday and 05:25 on Sunday, though you can skip it: contactless pay as you go is accepted, so tap in at London Bridge and out at Gatwick with the same card or phone.
Before a Saturday or Sunday flight, run the journey through the National Rail planner the day before: planned engineering work can change which trains call at London Bridge or put you on a bus for part of the way.
A car from London Bridge suits a group with a lot of luggage or a flight before the trains start. The fixed saloon prices four firms publish run from £66 to £117. Gatwick charges drivers to drop off at the terminal, and not every firm builds that into its price, so ask before you book.

Questions
Can I pay by contactless from London Bridge to Gatwick?
Yes. Contactless pay as you go is accepted between London Bridge and Gatwick Airport, and so is an adult Oyster card on pay as you go. Touch in and out with the same card or device. Concession Oysters such as the 60+ London Oyster and Freedom Passes do not travel free on this stretch.
Why don't the screens at London Bridge show Gatwick as a destination?
Southbound Thameslink trains usually run beyond the airport and are labelled Brighton, Horsham or Three Bridges. Gatwick Airport appears in the list of calling points, so check that rather than the headline destination.
